Professional Teacher Development Workshop
On 24th of November 2021, we were delighted to conduct our first “Teacher Professional Development Fun Day” of the academic year at Sham Shui Po Government Primary School, in which we received an overwhelming response from the participating teachers. This face-to-face fun day enabled the teaching staff to take a breather from the heavy daily load of work and enjoy the benefits of physical activity through a variety of game and activities. Over 50 teachers actively participated in the event.
The event kicked off with a brief introduction of physical literacy, followed by an exciting, fun and interactive big board game - “Fun to Move Everywhere” which is designed to promote fundamental movement skills (FMS) and health-related fitness for all levels. Teachers were then arranged in groups to experience different physical fitness tests and activities on a rotation basis, aiming to improve their skills and knowledge in health as well as to enhance their physical and mental well-being. The test items included handgrip strength, shoulder flexibility, body composition, and FMS. The participating teachers were glad to be provided with the opportunity on the use of Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), and received a detailed report on personal health outcomes such as Visceral Fat Rating, Bone Mass, Muscle Mass and Metabolic Age, etc. They could also try out the Project’s FMS Rater to understand their competence of “Horizontal Jump” as it provided immediate feedback right after the skill attempt.
During the fun day, the teachers showed enthusiasm to work together and learn new things to replenish themselves. The team will continue our effort to liaise with individual Project schools to conduct “Teacher Professional Development Fun Day” in upcoming term.
