This workshop entitled “Using Big data to facilitate the development of a diversified PE programme” is the third of this school year. It was conducted online on 24 May 2022 and attended by over 70 PE teachers from 23 Project schools. The objective was to share findings from longitudinal sport band and questionnaire datasets collected since the Project started in 2017, with meaningful insights about the trends, correlations, and patterns to inform and foster Quality Physical Education (QPE).

Professor HA kick-started the workshop, highlighting the meetings with principals and school group representatives in April/May 2022, and the three key targets for becoming an active “Fun to Move@JC” model school. The workshop covered a brief introduction on big data and its application in the Project. The objective and subjective student and parent data were shared to inform the promotion of daily physical activity among schoolchildren, as well as to provide insights into QPE policy and practice in schools. Participating teachers were then allocated into breakout rooms for small group discussions, sharing thoughts and ideas on topics, such as 1) effective strategies to improve the quality of PE, or 2) family-school-community partnerships to promote physical activity. Prof. Ha concluded the small group activity with a plenary discussion. The workshop ended by the project team highlighting the upcoming Project events/activities and specific performance goals in the coming year.
